The creator of Avatar had the initial idea for an iconic scene where a metal skeleton rips out of a chest and is engulfed in flames, but decided to use it in a time travel movie to simplify production. The concept of a liquid metal robot was also introduced but was later simplified by using water on the ground to create the desired effect.
