DuckDB has an extension mechanism, and in the upcoming year, they plan to focus on integrating rust-based extensions to enable users to write DuckDB UDFs for vector search. The goal is to allow users to run additional DuckDB queries on the results of these UDFs and to seamlessly integrate vector databases into the workflow without users having to specifically focus on it.

Prashanth Rao mentioned LanceDB as a stand out amongst the many vector DB options in episode #234.
