Mesenchymal stem cells offer advantages over hematopoietic stem cells as they do not require cross-matching, lowering the risk of rejection. However, early-generation MSCs can still be immunogenic, but second-generation gene-edited MSCs have improved longevity. In the future, advancements in regenerative medicine may lead to full organ regeneration, with cartilage anticipated as one of the first organs to be successfully regenerated using tissue engineering and embedded stem cells.
