Control the Eccentric in Weightlifting
Controlling the eccentric phase of weightlifting is crucial as it requires less nervous system stimulus compared to the concentric phase, leading to more muscle growth. Most people naturally control the concentric phase as the weight pushes back, but the eccentric phase is often neglected. Allowing the weight to drop during the eccentric phase may increase the risk of injury and reduce the muscle growth potential of the movement.
