Do Hard Things

Mosaic - Erwin McManus

NOTE

Expanding Brain Capacity Through Hard Things

Neuroscience research reveals that the anterior mid-singular cortex (AMCC) in our brain is a key hub for learning and undesired effort. Activation of the AMCC occurs when engaging in behavior we do not want to do. By doing things we don't like or want to do, this part of the brain expands, increasing our brain capacity. Doing hard things we want to do does not have the same effect. This insight suggests that by facing and doing hard things, we can actually increase our brain capacity, affecting our willpower and will to live.
