Defending using diverse sources for arguments
Rababar Mari used a unique approach to defend his point by referencing not only the Torah, prophets, and writings but also the Mishnah and the Talmud. This five-source argument format mirrors the way one would prove a doctrine by citing the Old and New Testaments. In his defense, he referenced Genesis, Judges, and Sirach, a book found in Catholic and Orthodox Bibles but not in Protestant and modern Jewish Bibles. Through this example, it is evident that rabbis in the Talmud quoted books not present in modern Jewish and Protestant Bibles while denying some that are included in them.
