Human Babies: Born Helpless but Evolving with Brain Size
Human babies are born earlier compared to other mammals because their brains and heads grow too big for extended gestation. Although they are born helpless and take 12 to 18 months to function independently, this process is necessary due to brain development constraints. Unlike other mammals that can quickly stand and walk after birth, human babies require continuous care and nurturing, similar to kangaroo joeys. Witnessing the contrasting birth and development processes of various mammals in nature can be enlightening.
