Understanding Conformity Theory and Participatory Knowing
Conformity theory, also known as contact epistemology, proposes that knowing something means being in contact with it and participating in the same form as the thing. Participatory knowing involves shaping oneself in order to know the thing by conforming to it, whereas descriptive knowing involves standing apart and generating propositions about the thing.
