The Brain's Internal Simulation and the Free Energy Principle
The brain uses a generative model to simulate sensory data based on what it thinks it is seeing. This internal simulation is what we experience as our perception of reality. The Free Energy Principle states that our brain minimizes prediction error by simulating what it believes is happening in order to make sense of the limited sensory data it receives.
