NOTE

The New Deal and American History

The New Deal, despite its imperfections, led to the highest quality of life for white middle-class Americans and had broad societal impacts. The era of prosperity reactionaries refer to, such as the 50s and early 60s, was when the New Deal thrived with bipartisan consensus. This period was influenced by bottom-up movements, including communist and socialist actions, trade unions, and pressure externally from entities like the Soviet Union, as well as the Cuban and Chinese revolutions. Ironically, those who advocate for anti-communism today often idealize this era created by socialist and communist efforts. They romanticize the cultural norms of the period without embracing the economic policies that actually drove the prosperity of the time.
