Parental Permissions and District Decisions on AI Implementation
Districts have parents sign agreements at the beginning of the school year to allow the utilization of edtech tools with students. By signing these agreements, parents give the district permission to act in place of the parent for these tools, even for children under the age of 13, known as in loco parentis. However, districts are now faced with ensuring that these agreements adequately address the use of AI tools, particularly in data entry and system training, leading to some agreements needing adjustments to align with the current AI landscape.
