Alcohol: The Most Common Cause of Brain Damage

Alcohol is the most common source of brain damage that many people voluntarily expose themselves to. The chronic consumption of alcohol leads to brain atrophy and thinning of the gray matter cortex. Large-scale studies have shown a near-linear relationship between the amount of alcohol consumed and the amount of brain atrophy. Alcohol kills neurons and excessive alcohol consumption is detrimental to the brain.
