NOTE

The Cost of Being More Sensitive to Threat

In an egalitarian society, genetic differences actually increase. Women are more sensitive to negative emotion due to the cost it entails, such as higher levels of depression and anxiety. This sensitivity is useful because women are physically smaller and sexually vulnerable, making them more attuned to physical combat threat. Additionally, women are more alert to threat because they serve as proxies for the vulnerability of their infant. While this sensitivity may result in unhappiness and anxiety, it allows women to detect signs of danger and protect their community.
