The Impact of China's Firewall on Technological Innovation
About 10 percent of the Chinese population, which is around 10 million people, are on Twitter. The Chinese government has implemented a firewall that acts as a form of protectionism, creating a fishbowl for domestic technological innovation. China's tech ecosystem is more consumer-friendly and integrated than the West's. With a massive population and a strong innovation pipeline, China's protectionism is reminiscent of 19th-century American industrial policy. Chinese platforms like Waybo are more advanced and competitive than Facebook. So, China is not at a disadvantage in terms of tech innovation and competition.
