Your Polus Isn't Just Where You Lived
In ancient Greece, living in a polus meant being part of a tight-knit community where everyone spoke the same language, had the same religion, and shared a deep connection to the land. It was a city-state like Athens or Sparta, where citizens participated directly in their government and knew the people involved. Ostracism was the harshest punishment, excluding someone from the community without harm.
