Christopher Columbus did not believe he discovered a new continent, but a new route to Asia/nNative Americans are often called Indians because Columbus thought he had discovered a route to India/nFlorence commissioned Amerigo Vespucci to explore the new territory/nVespucci realized it was new land and mapped the east coast/nAmerica was named after Amerigo Vespucci/nLeonardo was friendly with the Vespucci family
