Understanding Addiction and its Relationship with the Polyvagal Theory

Addiction is defined as something that provides short-term relief but harms in the long term, leading to self-harm and the inability to stop. Addictions are viewed through a polyvagal lens as state regulation strategies or propellers that help in shifting between sympathetic flight and dorsal parasympathetic immobilization.
