Brad Jacobs and his team at Amarex built a crude version of the internet using appliance-sized computers and green screens.
This system allowed them to share real-time data on oil prices and buyer-seller activity, which provided a significant competitive advantage, and positioned Jacobs to start his own oil trading company in London.
