NOTE

Understanding Affect, Feeling, and Self

To understand this concept, we need to define three words: affect, feeling, and self. Affect is the arousal of emotions that we cannot control. For example, anger is an affect that is aroused in us when we are provoked. We cannot choose to be angry, as our body reacts before we even realize it. However, in the long term, we can have some control over our affects. By living a better life and taking care of ourselves, we can reduce the arousal of anger. The next word is feeling, which is when we relate the affect to ourselves. It is the next step in understanding our emotions.
