NOTE

Embrace the Human Scale in Architecture

Architectural design must prioritize the human scale, roughly five to six feet, to create spaces that resonate with human proportions. Elements like doorways, building facades, and interior details should echo the dimensions of the human body—arm width, finger length, and head size. Many contemporary architectural designs neglect this scale, resulting in vast, bland facades devoid of relatable elements that we associate with comfort and security. Instead, the richness of older architectural styles, with their intricate trims and decorative details, fulfills the need for visible affordances that enhance our perception of space. Ignoring human dimensions leads to disconnection, while incorporating them fosters an inviting environment that meets human sensory expectations.
