The founders started by creating a Google form for meal planning and then delivering custom meal plans and grocery lists using Google slides and text messages. They perceived a willingness to pay from the market response, and despite not having a technical co-founder, they leaned into this signal and built out the team to develop their product further. They followed the concept of a minimum viable product to learn and answer the crucial question of whether people would pay for a meal plan and recipes, which was confirmed by the market's response.
