The brittleness of rationality and its limitations

Translating the world into testable decision trees is a common approach in science, but it can lead to missing important phenomena such as consciousness. Many psychologists consider consciousness unscientific and ignore it. This is because our methods and concepts are not suited to deal with it. Rationalists heavily rely on their rational thoughts, but normal people also trust their gut feelings. When there's a contradiction, the gut usually takes precedence.
