Measuring Engineering Productivity

Measuring engineering productivity is complex and cannot be solely based on metrics like lines of code or bugs fixed. It requires understanding what outcomes engineering leaders want, ensuring that the measurements will drive meaningful change, and distinguishing between goals, signals, and metrics. Goals represent desired outcomes, signals are what we aim to measure (though sometimes abstract), and metrics are tangible proxies for signals that can be quantified.
