The building where Oswald fired the shots at President Kennedy was chosen because it was where he worked and he was left alone there. His coworkers had left for lunch half an hour before the shooting, leaving him unattended on the sixth floor. The absence of security detail or coworkers on the floor, combined with the lack of protective measures for the President's motorcade that day, allowed Oswald to carry out the assassination. The convertible presidential vehicle was not bulletproof at the time and did not have the protective features that are now standard for presidential vehicles.
