NOTE

Reflection on America's foundation and the fascination with serial killers

The foundation of America was built on conquest, murder, slavery, and genocide, which is reflected in the culture's embrace of murder historically. The embracing of murder and the fascination with serial killers may stem from the bloody foundational myths and the idea of conquering heroes against the evil other. However, it's noted that serial killers are still humans who went wrong, and assuming them as 'other' does a disservice to everyone. This assumption also makes people prone to thinking they are more interesting than they actually are. It's highlighted that even though a profiler may get a lot right, they can also say irrelevant things, akin to cold reading based on nonverbal cues.
