The Evolution of Druids and the Decline of Paganism in Ireland
The concept of slavery in ancient Ireland was complex. While technically escape was possible, it was extremely difficult in reality. Druids held high status and were influential in society, but their importance declined with the rise of Christianity. Paganism persisted for 400 years after St. Patrick's arrival, evidenced by the presence of pagan graves. The druidic knowledge and practices eventually became more mythological and were later revived in the 1700s by figures like John Toland, resulting in a romanticized modern druid movement.
