Effective Group Reading Strategies and Managing Student Expectations
The success of group reading strategies depends on how it is set up and the expectations of the students. If students find it stressful, it may indicate improper setup or it not working for the group. Different student groups have different preferences, where some may enjoy the challenge and fun of the strategy, while others may struggle. It's important to have an option for students to pass, but it should be communicated as a temporary option, with the intention of coming back to them. Allowing students to opt out of participation can lead to prolonged disengagement and should be managed effectively.
