Religion and violence

Religion is generally not the problem in political violence, but it can make violent expression more problematic. A religion can cast issues into a cosmic war and give things ultimate significance. And it also provides vehicles for mobilization. At the same time, religion as a a real problem, gives us a real problem too. The more that we look through a lens of religion in understanding this, the more that we are involved in stigmatizing those who are religious.
