NOTE

A Wandering Mind Is an Unhappy Mind

When people are working on a task but thinking about something else, it makes them feel unhappy. The mismatch between being in an activity and having our mind elsewhere leads to unhappiness. Even if our thoughts are positive and joyful, not being fully engaged in the present moment is a great source of unhappiness. It is important to have the ability to be fully engaged in what we are doing as it is the strongest predictor of happiness. The conclusion of several studies on this topic is that a wandering mind is an unhappy mind, and the ability to think about what is not happening in the moment has an emotional cost.
