Traditional health research often relies on food frequency questionnaires, limiting data to recent habits without considering lifetime alcohol consumption patterns. This can skew results, particularly in studies of older populations where many abstainers may do so for health reasons. Consequently, these unhealthy abstainers are compared to robust drinkers, leading to the misleading conclusion that alcohol consumption indicates good health, rather than being a cause of it.
