Finding Soul in the Flow State
The flow state is a reliable way to temporarily escape the self-ego and connect with a deeper part of ourselves, which is central to our agency and generates a sense of connectedness and meaning. Activities like rock climbing induce the flow state, despite being physically challenging, because they provide an opportunity to access this deeper part of the self. The narrative ego, which is preoccupied with self-image and status, dissolves in the flow state, allowing a sense of soul to emerge, responsive to the sacred and life-giving.
