The Atrophy of Enjoying Wealth after Accumulating it
There is plenty of advice on how to become rich, but very little on how to actually enjoy being rich. Accumulating wealth is taught, but enjoying wealth is neglected. The focus on accumulating wealth leads to a neglect of other aspects of life. Successful individuals have trained themselves to excel in their chosen field, but their social, recreational, and exploratory skills have atrophied. They become focused on conquering their vertical and neglect other areas of life. They forget how to socialize, meet new people, try new things, and think creatively. Reentering normal life becomes uncomfortable and painful, similar to starting a workout routine after a long break. It takes time and effort to rebuild the ability to enjoy life beyond work and success. It is a painful process for successful individuals to reintegrate into humanity and rediscover themselves. The atrophy of enjoying wealth is real and it takes persistence to build it back up. Like someone starting the gym after a break, successful rich people experience frustration, sweat, and pain when attempting to reenter normal life and enjoy their wealth.
