Social relationships, including marriage and friendships, have been linked to higher longevity, while social isolation and loneliness have been associated with higher mortality rates. Stress and social disconnection do not appear to be independent risk factors for shorter life spans, but they can lead to unhealthy lifestyle factors like substance abuse and poor diet choices, which ultimately impact longevity.
