Understanding Power Density and Renewable Energy Sources

Power density is a measure of energy flow, and it determines the shape of our energy and power systems. Ethanol has very low power density, while wind has a power density of one watt per square meter. Solar, with a power density of 10 watts per square meter, is a better option for renewables. Wind requires large amounts of land, impacting more people, and the only way to increase output is to capture more land.
