The Wretched of the Earth - Frantz Fanon: On National Consciousness and National Culture
Red Menace
Challenges of the National Bourgeoisie in Fanon's Vision
Fanon emphasizes the need for the nationalist project to combat the bourgeoisie to avoid developing into chauvinism. He criticizes the political incompetence of the national bourgeoisie, highlighting their tendency to create dictatorial states to secure their interests through violence. Despite the repressive nature of these states, they remain weak and unstable due to the bourgeoisie's lack of economic means and technical expertise. The bourgeoisie's focus on self-enrichment leads to stagnation, prompting them to invest in prestige projects to mask regression. As the bourgeoisie neglects the masses and urbanizes, a personality cult around party leaders emerges, who end up representing the bourgeoisie's interests rather than true liberation.
