The Need for Rewards in Motivating People
People work hard in the workplace because they are motivated by the desire for a paycheck, bonus, or promotion. This aligns with the notion that human motivation often stems from the expectation of rewards, as demonstrated by the principles of Adam Smith and Skinner's scientific validation. Skinner's studies with rats showed that organisms need rewards to engage in tasks and may not inherently find work enjoyable. Therefore, in order to motivate people to work, it is essential to provide them with rewards. However, the challenge lies in the fact that individuals may not work without compensation, indicating the necessity of offering adequate pay to support themselves and their families.
