Encouraging Curiosity and Problem-Solving
Encouraging specific curiosity can lead to problem-solving and innovation. People should be encouraged to explore problems that interest them, even if not directly related to their daily work. Creating positions like the Chief Knowledge Officer at NASA can help ensure institutional memory and learning from mistakes are spread across an organization. Encouraging employees to identify problems they can solve but are not currently addressing can lead to innovation. Leaders should be willing to underwrite the risk of curious employees, allowing them to take risks and innovate. By unleashing suppressed curiosity, organizations can foster a culture of innovation and creativity, possibly achieved through mentoring.
