Burrowing owls decorate their burrows with impressive items to attract females and show off to other males. These items can include cornstalks, corncobs, moss, and even vertebrae of deer. They will also take human-made objects like cloth and bits of concrete. The more difficult it is for an owl to acquire these items, the more impressive it is to the female and other males.
