Authorizing and authenticating between two systems

A user can easily understand the interaction between a photo printing site and a photo sharing site. The photo printing site requests permission to access the user's photos, and upon approval, it receives an authorization code. The site then uses this code to validate the request with the photo sharing site and authenticate itself. If successful, it obtains access to the photo sharing site's API.
