Trust AI, but Know Its Limits

Automated feedback generated by AI, particularly through large language models, can be rapid and authoritative, leading students to trust it significantly. However, this reliance can be problematic as students may feel compelled to continually seek validation from the AI, believing their work is broken and in need of fixing. This cycle reveals a crucial limitation of AI: it lacks an understanding of individual writing contexts and cannot accurately assess each student's unique goals or progress. It is essential for students to develop AI literacy to recognize these limitations and understand that generative AI, while potentially helpful, cannot replace the nuanced evaluations provided by human feedback.
