Integrating Ecological Psychology and Neuroscience
Ecological psychology challenges traditional cognitiveist views by emphasizing the interplay of body and environment over the manipulation of representations in the head. Favella proposes the neuroecological nexus theory to reconcile ecological psychology and neuroscience, utilizing complexity science to integrate frameworks and conceptual tools. This approach views affordances as a form of dimensional reduction in complexity science. Favella, an associate professor of philosophy and cognitive sciences, was drawn to ecological psychology during his studies, which shifted his focus from neurocentric views to embracing the direct perception of the world without the need for mental representations.
