Retrieving Heritage Requires Restitution

Settler colonialism resulted in the genocide of African populations and the establishment of European governance on appropriated land. In Zimbabwe, formerly known as Rhodesia, British colonialism lasted several centuries, leading to a significant national liberation struggle that culminated in victory in 1979. Following this, Zimbabwe initiated the Land Reform Program to reclaim land from colonial control. Contrary to narratives suggesting the program's failure, which imply incompetence among local populations, evidence supports the notion that the land reform was successful. This initiative serves as a model for similar reclamation efforts in other colonized regions worldwide, emphasizing the necessity of taking back indigenous lands.
