NOTE

The Arab Focus on Preventing Jewish Sovereignty in Palestine

During the period leading up to the establishment of a Jewish state in Palestine, the Arab focus was not solely on achieving Palestinian Arab sovereignty but also on preventing any form of Jewish sovereignty in the region. British Foreign Secretary Ernest Bevin highlighted the irreconcilable conflict of principles between the Jews and the Arabs, with the Arabs primarily aiming to obstruct Jewish independence. The Palestinian Arab leader, Khajamin Uqusseini, aimed to establish a Palestinian Arab state in Palestine while simultaneously striving to thwart the establishment of a Jewish state. The Zionist movement had cleverly laid the groundwork for statehood, establishing a self-governing system within the British mandate, while the Arabs of Palestine had not adequately prepared themselves for statehood during the same period.
