Transhumanism and Emerging Technologies (Fr. Michael Baggot) | Ep. 450
Pints With Aquinas
Dante as the Father of Transhumanism
Dante, the great Catholic poet, introduced the idea of transhumanism in Paradiso, his account of heaven. In the very first canto, he described the saints as transhumanizing, going beyond the limits of human nature and living in glorious and splendid ways. They transcended human limits and were able to embody supernatural virtues. Dante's vision of transhumanism predates modern interpretations and shows that the concept has been part of our cultural imagination for centuries.
