The speaker had always started their own companies until now. They developed a relationship with the founders of Obsidian by reporting bugs and making community contributions. They found it easy and natural to join Obsidian full time instead of starting another company. They believe in solving problems and making an impact rather than just starting a company. Starting a company should be a last resort.
