Enslavement and Self-Centeredness in Spiritual Life

Sin leads to a state of spiritual death and complete helplessness, where individuals are entirely controlled and mastered by external influences. These influences include the 'ways of this world' and the 'ruler of the kingdom of the air,' representing both societal norms and the devil. The core issue is not merely external forces, but the self-centered nature inherent within humanity, described in the Bible as 'the sinful nature' or 'sarks.' This self-centeredness drives individuals to gratify their selfish desires and thoughts, showcasing that the heart's default orientation is towards self rather than divine principles. Notably, the concept of pride and conceit is highlighted, connecting it to the downfall of the devil and emphasizing that self-centeredness is fundamentally the same issue faced by both sinners and the devil.
