A columbus put forward an argument about the units of measure that these greek philosophers like aritosthenes, were using. And he argued that they were much smaller than people thought. Basically, the dominicans listened to this and said, this guy is crazy. He's completely off his rocker. The earth is much bigger than that. There's no way he could sail out from europe and make it all the way around to asia. It would take years. If they would run out of supplies, they'd never make it that far. So columbus was wrong, and the dominican critics were right.
