Physiological preparation for winter and its impact on metabolism

Our physiology shows seasonal rhythms and prepares for winter by increasing cholesterol and blood sugar levels as if preparing for hibernation. However, since we no longer experience such extreme winter conditions, this preparation leads to disrupted metabolism and contributes to modern diet-related diseases. Cholesterol and blood sugar act as antifreeze for our cells to prevent freezing in cold winter conditions.
