The Bible was previously available only in Greek and Latin until Martin Luther translated the New Testament into German. Luther aimed to empower people by providing them with the opportunity to read the Bible in their own language, free from the interpretations of priests and churches. However, Luther did not create the first German language Bible as commonly believed, as there were existing German Bibles before his translation work.
