The speaker has refined the process of revision by seeking feedback from coaches and different teams. They have made an effort to become less busy over time in order to make more space for writing, as they consider it the most meaningful aspect of their job. They block out two days a week with nothing on their calendar to prioritize writing for various purposes such as publishing research, creating books, podcasting, giving talks, and communicating with students.

“If you only focus on your own interest, you tend to develop novel ideas, but not necessarily useful ideas. And so for me, the audience is a filter. … I might have 30 ideas for a book. Let me hone in on the four or five that also might be relevant to other people. The goal there is to make a contribution.”
